Tuesday Meets Critical Paper Beast

Today I spent some time revising what  I've managed to write on my newest version of my thesis. If I survive, and I will, getting this paper done it will be a miracle! Good thing I believe in those otherwise I would be in trouble.

There are days when you feel like you are a rock start, and today was one of those days for me. I managed not to watch anything on netflix all day. I did have some help with that seeing as the internet was down for most of the day (thank you Heavenly Father). I cleaned the house, made a pretty tastey dinner, cleaned all of the dishes (even the dinner ones) and I'm even blogging. I could say that that adds up to one rock star day!

Tomorrow my day starts at 6 a.m. thanks to my new writing schedule, so I hope to make some more progress on my beast of a paper. On the plus side (and there are several) I really like my new topic (thanks again to my biggest heavenly fan) so I don't mind thinking about it all the time or rewriting what I've written a hunderd times over.

In other news I'm reading Langston Hughes Pather And The Lash and I'm loving his passion. I suppose it would be hard to be African American in that time and not be emotional about life, but the way that he builds poems on his emotions and rage is beautiful. I'd reccommend it to anyone poetry lover or not.

A Child Out of Alcatraz

Yesterday the Foreverland Press launched Tara Ison's book A Child Out of Alcartaz. It was so exciting to post things about the book and Alcatraz. I learned all sorts of things that I never knew about the prison and the inmates who spent their lives there. My all time favorite was the inmate who escaped and hid inside a small cave until the guards found him. It seems like the rest of the inmates who tried to escape jumped right into the water which was the worst idea they could possible have! Between the water temperatures and the currents the inmates didn't stand much of a chance of escaping. Tara answered questions posted to her by us and the others who attended the Facebook event, so I would say all-in-all it was a fun day for all of us.

Homework Frenzy

So my homework was due yesterday. Like wach month I was writing like crazy to get everything finished up, only this time it was way last minute when I finished. But writing like crazy finally got me out of my weird writing funk. The weird writing funk was probably part of the problem when it cam eto everything being super last minute, but hey it got done.

So on another note Jordyn is cuter than ever. She's 10 months and full of fun. Everything is an adventure to her. There is not crack to small or object to bug. She's fasinated by everything. I love how excited she gets about just crawling around revisiting things she's already seen. Motherhood isn't glamerous, but it's fun. Staying at home with Jordyn is a mixture of feelings for me. I love spending my days with the bright, beautiful girl;but staying at home isn't always my favorite thing. My days run together because it is easier to be distracted by life rather than living it. I'm working on my commitment to a better life rather than an easy one, but it's gonna take trial and error.

Clean House?

Why is it that every time I clean my house no one sees it, but as soon as I leave the dishes from making/eating dinner the night before and entertaining Jordyn has made a huge mess people randomly come over? It happened to me twice last week. I even cleaned my house more than normal last week, and still a ton of people saw it looking crazy. Ugh. Oh well, I suppose that's just life reminding me that I'm still human.

Another random tangent: friends that grow apart. So I'm really bad at "keeping in touch" with people that I couldn't live without while we were in the same place at the same time. I don't know how people do it. I'm not sure how you go about continuing a relationship when you live hundreds of miles apart.

Yet another tangent: I'm reading Beloved, and it's driving me crazy. Toni Morrison is truly an artisan with words. What she writes is beautiful and thick, but I can't seem to keep it down. I don't know what about the story is rubbing me the wrong way, but I have 50 pages or so left and I can't seem to make it through. However, I have 2 more days to get my homework done, so I don't really have a choice but to push through and get it done. I've been stuck running into a wall, and I can't seem to feel my way around it. It's probably because I'm distracted by other things in my life, but still I would love to get back into writing.

A newer resolve

Ok, so it has been almost a month since I posted last. I'm becoming a lame blogger again, so I have a newer resolve to be a better blogger. Despite the fact that Jordyn is currently trying to attack my computer and I am fending her off with my leg. Ah, motherhood.

Since we've moved into our new apartment, I've been on a decorating frenzy. For some reason I hate everything, and feel like nothing is cute enough. So room by room, I've been working on where to put the furniture and worrying about the walls and personal affects later. Today Jordyn and I went to the Dollar Store, love that place, and purchased 4 bunches of fake flowers. When we got home I took some scrapbooking paper I already had and lined glass vases with it. Then I put the fake flowers in and seperated them to look a little fuller. Now I know that there are those who say if you like flowers enough to put them in your home NEVER use fake ones, but to those I say if you had my budget and liked flowers you'd buy fake ones too!

Other than that I've been working on filling up my days without spending hours watching T.V. and can I just tell you that it's a lot harder than it sounds. Yesterday I baked bread, cleaned hte house, made some cinnamon bread, made dinner, ran some errands and still had time to watch 4 hours of T.V. Today I ran some more errands, took a nap, visited a friend, and did some more chores, and it looks like I will again have a few hours to watch some tube. I suppose that will come one thing at a time, and hopefully it counts that I'm trying not to be a couch potatoe.

Off to make dinner, and to keep Jordyn from eating my journals!

Crawling Craziness!

Holy cow! Jordyn is everywhere and into everything. At least this is keeping me busy. Other than that I'm just up to school work. Reading and writing. I just started a new story about a mother that shoots and kills her daughter after a super creepy dream I had one night. It was crazy! There was nothing I could do to keep from dying each time I went back to sleep. Oh well, it gave me a story to write.
Cory is starting week 2 of medical school, and I have to say despite all of my complaining it actually hasn't been bad at all. He goes to school at 8 in the morning and gets home as early as 2 pm some days. Mean while Jordyn and I are playing and finding projects around the house to keep us busy. I have loads of keep sake papers that need to be preserved and the story of their significance needs to be written down. And when I don't want to do that or homework I have instruments to practice or emails to send. It would be nice to get out of the house more, but it all comes in time I suppose.
The ward here is really great. Everyone is friendly even though we're only going to be here for 4 years! The people from the ward were bumed to find out that we were only going to be here for 4 years. Cory and I laughed because to us that seems like forever. It will be the longest that we've ever lived in one place. Cory also said that if we moved into a ward in UT and said that we would be there for 4 years they'd make him Elder's Quorum President! Haha, that just goes to show how different places are.
I've got the bug to paint something, so I'll be on the hunt today for something new to paint. Speaking of which I need to start posting the pictures I paint. Just for fun. Well, I'm off to chase my speedy baby. Wish me luck!

Update

I can't believe that it's been a month since I posted last. Ahhhhhh! Well, let's start the catch up then shall we?
We're in St. Louis now. We're more or less all unpacked, and Cory is in real medical school classes. We've started started to settle into a routine here. And surprisingly I don't hate life yet. One of our neighbors said that he treated medical school like a job and had a starting and quiting time. Cory thought that was a pretty good idea, so that's what he does. He hasn't been longer than 6:30 coming home. Very impressive for Cory. He's done really well managing his time.
Today some of the stay at home mommies went out for lunch, so I went. It was fun. We went to My Daddy's Cheesecake Bakery & Cafe. I think that the dessert was supposed to be better than actual food. However, I only got a sandwich. It wasn't too bad though. It was fun to get to know some more people that are in the ward.
Other than that we've just been doing the normal. Eating, sleeping, spendind time doing stuff.
